Brass Steps

Available now the Brass Steps ensemble books. This part of the package has 71 pieces from the Brass Steps tutor book arranged in four parts for junior bands. The pieces range from the very first pieces that a junior band will play to about grade 3. It is recommended that with beginners the following combination is best; - Part 1 in Bb, Part 2 in Bb, Part 3 in Eb and Part 4 in Bb and Eb (trombones, baritones, euphoniums and basses). There is a Part three in Bb book available but it is a 4th higher than the part 3 in Eb book.

Books in bass clef, in F for french horn, in Eb for soprano cornet and in concert pitch are available but the key signatures/note range in some of the melodies could be more difficult that what they are for the basic set of books. 

We will be selling the part books individually at £1.20 each so that bands/educational establishments can purchase what they need. The score will be £5.00.

Downloads - Sharps

The work on producing teaching material that can be used for teaching groups is well under way and as part of our quality control procedure we are offering samples of this material free as a download.

The sample currently on offer involves an introduction to learning about sharps and the download consists of a page of individual type work, which has also been arranged as a piece that can be played by a brass group. The material that follows this lesson gives more information about sharps. We are hoping that people who use this material will give us feedback/comments. The E-mail address is post@soniarus.co.uk.

Meanwhile, just in case you don’t believe how good Welsh hymn tunes sound when played by a brass band the hymn tune Ardudwy by John Roberts (Ieuan Gwyllt) is available as a free download. Downloads - Samples of our Music

Some of our customers have commented that it would be good if they could hear a sample of the music when on our site. This will take some time to do this properly but in order to address this as soon as possible we have used computer generated samples for the solos and duets. Obviously these are not as good as real performances and are quite mechanical compared to real performances that would have the required expression. Also the instruments tend to sound different to those stated in the catalogue. However we hope that they will give you an idea of how the music sounds. Real performances will be available as soon as is possible.
