About Us
Gareth Williams our composer started playing the cornet with the Natlle Vale Royal Silver Band when he was 9 years old. At that time things were not going to well for the Nantlle band and as a result he played with many of the other local bands in North Wales but always returned to the Nantlle band when the opportunity arose. He started giving lessons to other children of the Nantlle Band at the age of 16 and was appointed conductor of the band when he was 19 years old. The band then had 6 senior members and 4 junior members. Today the band has 24 senior band members, an intermediate band and a junior band. When he’s not filling in on the Eb Bass, Trombone or Euphonium Gareth still conducts the band.
In 1992 Gareth went to the University Of Wales Bangor as a mature student where he gained his B.Mus. Following this he qualified as a music teacher, worked part time as a brass tutor for the William Mathias Company in Caernarfon before becoming a special needs teacher and gaining a Masters in Education Qualification in 2004. He is currently doing a part time M.Phil/PHD composing course at the University Of Wales Bangor. Being that he has a wealth of experience working with children it was decided to launch the SONIARUS catalogue with music that caters for the needs of young brass instrumentalists.
